Sofija Nedic started playing the piano at the age of 5, and music has always been a big part of her life. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Arts from the Belgrade Conservatory of Music and a Master Degree in Piano Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Sofija is a Prize-Winner of over 20 International Piano Competitions in Italy, France, Austria, Greece and in the USA. She gave numerous recitals in Europe and in the United States and she toured with the San Jose Youth Symphony, as their soloist, in world renowned music halls such as: “Smetana Hall” in Prague, ‘Slovak Radio Hall” in Bratislava, Opera and Ballet Theatre in Ljubljana, Slovenia to name a few. Sofija had the privilege of studying with eminent piano professors such as: Jasques Rouvier (Paris Conservatory), Pavel Gililov (University “Mozarteum” in Salzbourg), Arbo Valdma (University of Cologne, Germany), Renon O’Hara (Guildholl School of Music and Drama, London), Mack McCray (San Frnaicisco Conservatory of Music). As a member of a famous European Piano Foundation “SOS Talents” led by a French Pianist and Composer Michel Sogny, she was able to perform a number of recitals in France and Switzerland.

Sofija’s Teaching Philosophy

Sofija comes from a family of musicians and she has been teaching music for a decade, both in Europe and in the USA. She believes music is for everyone and so needed nowadays. Sofija uses different teaching methods and accommodates her approach to each student individually, as she believes that every student is unique and needs special attention. Her lessons include working on piano technique and musicality, music theory, music history, and sight-reading. She also enjoys working on piano duets and different ensemble settings. Sofija is excited to share her knowledge with the HSM students!
