Winter Student Recitals

Sunday, December 3rd and December 10th, 1:00pm-3:00pm students from The Hunter School of Music will be performing at Westminster Presbyterian Church on The Alameda in San Jose. Our recitals are open to the public, so come relax and enjoy a wonderful performance by our hard working students!

SEPTEMBER 2017

Groupmuse: Concerts at The Hunter School of Music

Sunday, September 10th, 6:00pm-8:30pm. The Hunter School of Music welcomes Robyn Carmichael to our music school and community. Robyn is an extraordinary pianist with a close connection to the music of the romantic composers, such as Chopin, Liszt, and Schumann. This recital entitled “Romantic Masters and their Muses” will include a presentation/talking between pieces to help connect the audience members to the historical context of each piece and the life of the composer. AUGUST 2017

San Jose Jazz Festival

Friday, August 11th-Sunday, August 13th, San Jose Jazz Festival. On Saturday, 8/12, and Sunday, 8/13, The Hunter School of Music will have a tent set up at the festival. Come visit us as we will have a keyboard and ukulele to make some music, and be giving out some fun prizes for our raffle. Groupmuse: Concerts at The Hunter School of Music

Saturday, May 20th, 7:00pm-9:00pm. The Hunter School of Music welcomes the Irrera Brothers, a violin and piano duo. Details regarding the concert coming soon, but you can find out more about Joseph and John here.

Groupmuse: Concerts at The Hunter School of Music

Friday, March 31st, 7:00pm-9:00pm. We welcome classical guitarist, Yuri Liberzon to the music school. Yuri will be performing a solo guitar concert in the back studio of the school. Piano and Cello Concert

Solo Piano Concert: Music of the Romantic Period

Sunday, December 4th and Sunday, December 11th, 1:00pm-3:00pm, Join us at Westminster Presbyterian Church for our student performances. The recitals will be approximately an hour in length followed by a pot luck reception.

San Jose Metropolitan Band Concert: “Music to Die For”

Saturday, October 22nd, 3:00pm, The San Jose Metropolitan Band will have a special concert featuring scary music to get you all ready for Halloween. Come hear music from Wicked, Harry Potter, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and more! The concert is at Mission City Center For Performing Arts in Santa Clara.

Certificate of Merit Registration:

Fall 2016, register for the Music Teachers’ Association of California Certificate of Merit evaluation.  Students must submit their entry by October 31, 2015.  The evaluations will take place between mid-February and April 2017. Visit here to read more about it!

The program provides a standard of curriculum that requires students to strive for focused musical excellence in performance, technique, ear training, sight reading/singing, and music theory.”

SEPTEMBER 2016

Beethoven Center Trip

Saturday, September 10th, 1:30pm-3:30pm, The Center is the only institution in North America devoted solely to the life, works, and accomplishments of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). A truly spectacular exhibit everyone, especially musicians should visit!  Students and their families are invited to meet Brian and I at the exhibit for a demonstration of the harpsichord, fortepiano, and clavichord instruments and talk about Beethoven. Afterwards the students can try out their pieces on the instruments themselves!

MARCH 2016

San Jose Metropolitan Band Open Rehearsal and Instrument Showcase!

Monday, March 7th, 2016. The San Jose Metropolitan Band has invited students and families from The Hunter School of Music to attend one of their weekly rehearsals and discover all sorts of band instruments and what it is like to play in a group!

At 6:45pm students can arrive early to rehearsal to see individual instruments up close and even play the percussion instruments. There will be tubas, trombones, clarinets, bassoons, flutes, french horns, saxophones, even a Swiss alphorn and MORE!

At 7:30pm the band begins their weekly rehearsal an you are invited to stay and see what happens behind the scenes. It is a fantastic opportunity to discover new instruments, observe a rehearsal, and see what the role of a conductor is.

The Hunter School of Music Student Evaluations

November 2nd-7th, 2015.  All students will be evaluated during their regular lesson time on technique, repertoire, sight-reading, and theory. Each student will be awarded a level of proficiency based on a set standard determined by The Hunter School of Music.  This is a yearly evaluation process that’s implemented to help encourage students at the school to achieve a more proficient level of musicianship each year.

OCTOBER 2015

Special Halloween Piano Class for ALL Ages!

Saturday, October 31st, 11:00am-12:00pm. All students are invited to come to the school in costume for this special Halloween piano class. We will play spooky music and there will be special treats.

Open House

Sunday, June 28th, 2015 6:00pm-8:00pm. Join us as we open our doors to the community! We will have light hors d’oeuvres, beverages, live music including instructor and student performances, and various door prizes for both new and current students.
